The Blossoming Beauties of Met Gala Monday 2024

With the Met Gala officially over, here is another M bringing you up to date on the latest. On Monday, May 6th, the biggest celebrities and fashion icons graced the white and green carpet fitted with looks from head to toe.

With this year’s theme, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, being the collection to feature at the Met Museum, fashion enthusiasts all around the world kept a close eye on the Anna Wintour’s guest list and their dress code, the Garden of Time.

With some of our favorite superstars like Zendaya and Bad Bunny serving as the co-chairs for this year’s Met Gala, we all knew we were in for a special treat.

Notable looks of the night belong to Tyla, Teyana Taylor, Harris Reed, Zendaya, Mindy Kaling, and Emma Chamberlain with the star of the entire carpet being businesswoman Mona Patel. As soon as this gorgeous mystery woman stepped foot on the carpet, the internet immediately scrambled to find more information about her. Wearing the beautiful Iris Van Herpen butterfly dress styled by the iconic Law Roach, Miss Patel paired the dress with the perfect accessory: a 3D mechanical moving arm piece that adorned both arms down her side as if taking flight. This best dressed guest captured everyone’s attention as it was deemed one of the most on-themed looks of the night. Mona Patel appeared like a golden goddess pairing the most modern technology with a dress that is timeless.

The public always holds celebrities to a higher standard. We often associate celebrities to a higher class symbol thinking they can afford to not only attend the Met Gala, but are invited into the coveted doors that only so few have seen. This secrecy of the Met Gala is what entices an audience of fashion and art lovers all around the world to tune in to the carpet walks and reveals of glamour. Because even if it is for a split second, we get to witness and be a part of that world. We get to appreciate the beauty that we rarely see day to day. That is the magic of the Met Gala and those who breathe it. Why I believe the public was obsessed with Mona Patel aside from her obvious show-stealing ensemble was because we want to be her. While we are no Mona Patel, we all saw her as a symbol that represents the general public. A mysterious successful woman was able to be a part of this rather private, expensive, and elite party that only a handful of brands and celebrities get hand chosen by Anna Wintour herself. How bewitching!

With the theme derived from J.G. Ballard’s short story “The Garden of Time”, we were hoping for more creative spins and liberative takes on the theme rather than a literal commitment from designers and celebrities.

Unsurprisingly, we saw displays of flowers upon flowers or none at all on the stars. As with the Met Gala every year, there also comes our list of disappointments. Dresses should not be the only praised attire of the night, but unfortunately very few men’s look got the public’s stamp of approval. With the traditional and overused black suit and tie, many failed to make a mark. While the accessories were nice, I was hoping to step into a more colorful approach for certain male guests.

One person who really showed up was Wisdom Kaye’s burnt crimson rose look. As a visual teller, this fashion icon did not only understood the concept of the theme, but brought it to life…or should I say decay? Everything from the detail on the frills dangling off the arms or dancing around his neck to the top hat and oversized coat hanging off the ground was covered in burn marks as if a lighter was taken to this vibrant red fabric. The ability to color match and create a magnificent silhouette with several different fabrics is all thanks to designer, Robert Wun. He was the mastermind behind was the Wisdom Kaye’s piece that the Met Gala Men needed.

For all the reasons listed above, it is in our editor’s opinion that this year’s Met Gala owes its flowers to Mona Patel and Wisdom Kaye, who respectively owned the best dressed looks in the women’s and men’s category.

I have high hopes for 2025’s theme. This year’s was definitely a step up from 2023’s, so I truly hope we continue to awaken the fashion industry and inspire designers to be more meaningful with the art they put out. We love seeing the passion and intent behind every piece with its overall theme down to its simple stitch. It makes fashion lovers at home, like me, tune in for a good review and take note of change.

On a carpet or a person, down a runway or a protest walk, and in between unspoken words or fabrics, fashion is a statement.
